On October 10, the International Academic Network against the Death Penalty held a symposium organized by the Institute of Legal Studies of the Faculty of Law of the University of Coimbra, under the presidency of Anabela Miranda Rodrigues, president of the Portuguese group of the AIDP and world vice president of SIDS. The texts that are included in a book in English that the Institute will publish in the coming weeks have been presented and that addresses the process by which the execution of the death penalty is revealed today as a cruel and inhuman punishment and that makes prohibition of the same a peremptory norm or ius cogens. Among the speakers were William Schabas, Luis Arroyo Zapatero, Ignacio Berdugo Gómez de la Torre, José Luis de la Cuesta, Antonio Muñoz Aunión, Inés Horta, Pedro Caeiro, Miguel Manero, Maria Yoao, Joao Narciso, Miguel Joao Costa and Rafael Cheniaux.
